I do think that biting off more than you can chew is part of the git gud process. And think of it this way, if you tried to make the same game now, it would take a fraction of the time- you got plain better because of it.

That's true, these kind of failures are part of getting better. But I believe in the "fail faster" mantra. The faster you can recognize your mistakes and correct them, the better. The project I'm talking about in this post took me years, and I bet I'd be way better today if I had spent that time on smaller projects with the intention to learn, not create a product that lives up to my own expectations
